Medical Weight Loss Program

Lose 30 to 100 pounds or more, forever

If you who want to lose from 30 to 100 pounds or more—and keep it off with a program that really works, thanks to physician supervision and the one-on-one help of caring professionals—are urged to find out more about Gottlieb’s Medical Weight Management Program. For participants in the “obese” weight range, this 12-week program is proving to be an effective alternative to bariatric surgery.

“It has all the right pieces in place so we’re seeing an unusually high monthly average weight loss of about 10 pounds for the participants who have been through it so far,” said Richard Finegold, MD, medical director of the program.

When the weight comes off, good things happen, he said. “People with high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol are able to get off their medications or cut way back. There’s less back pain, less knee pain. A few people with sleep apnea are sleeping better and say they feel more refreshed when they wake up. It’s really heartening to see so many success stories.”

Dr. Finegold is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Weight Loss Medicine, and has been helping severely overweight women and men achieve their slimness goals—without surgery—for more than six years.

The four components of Gottlieb’s program are:

  • Medical supervision by Dr. Finegold
He sees each participant in his office several times during the 12 weeks, and then periodically during the maintenance
phase. He provides assessment of their health history, a physical exam, lab work, a daily calorie goal based on a metabolism test and the person’s activity level, and monitoring of their progress to insure safe weight loss.
  • Nutrition consultation
Registered dietitians work individually with participants on a healthy eating plan, making the best food choices, food shopping, meal preparation and problem-solving ways to achieve healthy diets.
  • Supervised exercise
While enjoying full use of Gottlieb Center for Fitness during the three months, each participant is assigned an exercise physiologist who provides a personalized training program, easygoing one-on-one coaching, and plenty of encouragement.
  • Behavior modification
Psychologists from Gersten Center for Behavioral Health lead group sessions to discuss stress eating, trigger foods and situations, alternative reward systems and other behavioral techniques to aid in weight loss.
