(MELROSE PARK, Ill.—Jan. 2, 2008) Bellwood resident Adrienne Wheeler delivered the first baby born in 2008 at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park. Jamyiah Janai Jarrett, a girl, welcomed in the new year at 2:12 pm, weighing in at six pounds, 11 ounces and at 19 inches in length. Jamyiah was delivered at the Gottlieb Birthing Center by Manuela Farhi, M.D., as well as Mary Scheidt, RN, and Marlena Head, scrub technician.
To mark the occasion, Adrienne Wheeler and the baby’s father, Jamal Jarrett, received a special gift package including clothes and toys from the Gottlieb Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Jamyiah is the first child for Wheeler, a pre-med student who plans to be an obstetrician/gynecologist, and Jarrett, an accounting student. “Jamyiah is named after her father, Jamal, whose name means “beautiful one,” said Wheeler. “She was an easy delivery and has slept a lot, making her an easy baby.”
Scheidt said that Jamyiah edged out the first boy baby of the new year who was born at 3: 31 pm. “The two mothers checked in about the same time and we were wondering which baby would earn the title,” said Scheidt.
