Those who suffer from diabetes must be very careful to check for wounds, especially in the foot area. Neuropathy, or the loss of sensation, is a common side effect of diabetes, causing cuts, blisters and punctures in the foot to go unnoticed. These wounds quickly grow in size, and become infected easily, due to the compromised circulation system of a person with diabetes.
Foot wounds, such as those suffered by Melrose Park-resident Donald Klaput, are unfortunately common among those with diabetes.
Diabetic foot wounds cannot be healed on their own. The Wound Care Center specializes in wounds of all kinds, including diabetes, and their specially trained medical staff uses the latest equipment, dressings and techniques to heal even the most stubborn wound.
