Gottlieb's Interpreter Services department has a bilingual staff of interpreters who are available on weekdays and evenings.
The staff:
- Regularly visits each non-English speaking patient to offer assistance.
- Is always available by pager to assist doctors, nurses and technical staff in communications with patients and family members, including teaching situations.
- Helps patients who call in to make appointments with doctors and fill out pre-admission questionnaires.
- Assists nurses in making follow-up phone calls after patients return home.
- Answers questions patients may have about their health.
- Connects callers with other same language-speaking hospital employees who can help them. For example, if they have questions about their hospital bills or test results.
- Provides educational information and referrals to other resources.
Gottlieb's Interpreter Services coordinator also:
- Organizes health fairs in the Latino community.
- Arranges for Latino doctors to give health lectures.
- Coordinates Gottlieb's participation in other events such as the annual HispanoFest in Melrose Park.
