The services at the Gottlieb Child Care Center are available to Gottlieb and Loyola employees with limited spaces for community members.
The facilities and programs at the Child Care Center are based on the philosophy that children need a warm, supportive environment to develop physically, intellectually and socially while their parents are at work.
The center is for children ages six weeks to six years. It is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is closed on national holidays.
The center also offers a full-day kindergarten program. For more information, contact the Child Care Center Director or Assistant Director at 708-538-6871.
Quality day care for a range of ages
The Day Care Center is licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
The center consists of two infant classrooms, Toddler I, Toddler II, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Children progress from one group to another according to their development needs.
The toddlers and pre-schoolers' rooms have several areas: dramatic play, a library for reading, and tables for creative/project work.
Just outside the center is an enclosed playground featuring a tricycle path, spiral slide, climbing platforms, and more. A special section just for toddlers includes tunnels for crawling and a small slide.
The center is located on the Gottlieb Campus.
Most of our classrooms have a waiting list. Please contact the Director or Assistant Director for waiting list information. A $100 non-refundable registration fee is required to be added to the waiting list.
Knowledgeable professionals to care for your children
All staff members have college degrees or completed course-work in early childhood education or a related field. Head teachers and aides have experience in teaching and caring for young children. All staff are carefully screened for their patience, sensitivity and ability to adjust the program and environment to meet a child's needs. All staff members have been with the center for at least three years, with several staff members who have been with the center since it opened in 1989.
Staff-to-child ratios, which are set by DCFS, allow each child to receive more individual attention. The ratios are:
- Infants: 1 to 4
- Toddlers: 1 to 5
- 2-year-olds: 1 to 8
- Preschoolers: 1 to 10
Daily activities to educate and delight
The center takes a progressive, developmental approach to learning. Young children learn through play and should have opportunities to explore and discover on their own and with other children. There is a great variety of creative individual and group activities each day.
We help infants gain a sense of trust, feel secure by being there for them all the time - and preferably the same person. Staff members provide the individual attention they need by reading to them, talking to them, feeding them and playing with them.
Examples of daily activities for children in our care are:
- Finger painting
- Play dough
- Cutting and pasting
- Group games
- Pretend play
- Bean bags
- Learning social rules (taking turns, waiting, asking for help, sharing and cooperating)
- Playground activities
- Invited guests (such as traveling puppet show troupes)
- Field trips to attractions around the Chicago area
- Special events for family members: Grandparents' Day, Mother's Day Tea, Father's Day, Christmas Party, and Halloween Fashion Show
- Communication: The center encourages open discussion and parent visits and provides parent conferences, parent-child activities, a newsletter and other ways for parents to be involved.
Open door policy: Parents are welcome to visit throughout the day. Parents of infants are welcome to nurse or feed their children.
